Awareness

It may be hard to believe, but like countless breeds Great Danes fall victim to abuse, mistreatment, and abandon. They require special needs that are too often disregarded, leading to their untimely demise, or surrender. Find out how you can help these gentle giants by getting involved with charities of the greater Ottawa area. Everything helps, from donations to opening your homes to foster care!

Should you witness any animal abuse or have any cases to report, pleasure refer to:

I believe a dog's life doesn't end with owner surrender. If cats have 9 lives, I like to think K9s have several shots at life as well!

Adoption can be a life changing decision. Here is a write up put together on occasion of Guinness and I's anniversary, on the 18th of April 2015:

"A year ago today, my life changed drastically, and for the better! I stumbled upon an ad for a Great Dane posted on kijiji. After contacting the owner, I was able to organize a visit that very same day, just to "look at him". After stepping out of the car (in the middle of nowhere) I knew I was in too deep. A 4yr old, sad looking, defeated, unbelievably skinny Dane laid there. It was a heartbreaking sight.

After the required small talk was done, the beast was on the backseat of my car and we drove away, never to look back. That very same day Guinness got his first bed, which he was very intrigued by. New and improved food, a growing collection of around 10 themed collars and leashes, bowls, treats, bones and his first toys. Winter booties and jackets and everything in between! He was groomed, received all his first shots and the vet deemed him to be healthy! Obedience training turned out to be a breeze, and of course, we joined the Ottawa Great Dane secret society... ;)

A year later Guinness is a rambunctious, 20 pound heavier soon to be 6yr old, playful, loving and happy little boy. He will live out his days surrounded by loved ones, and will never know abuse again. In fact, quite the spoiled little one...must be nice being everyone's favourite!

I wish for all of you to find your special someone one day. I encourage you to consider adopting older animals, as they are so deserving of a second and third chance at life. Let them surprise you! Happy 1st Anniversary, pumpkin!"
